4. Speaking of elections, the end is in sight for the BC Election. Christy Clark has called parliament for June 22nd. The big fight will be who gives up an MP to be Speaker of the House. Then it's the Throne Speech and, hopefully, Christy's goodbye.
5. I finished Season Five of "House of Cards". I can't believe how they ended it. I get having a cliffhanger, but they had, like, eight. AHH!!! (Also, I love Michael Kelly. This link contains spoilers.) There was one story that felt like it didn't go anywhere this season, but it also seemed like it could be cause plenty of problems in a future season so...
6. Part of the Alberta contingent was visiting this weekend which means day drinking. Had a few trips down memory lane in the past 24 hours. We'll add Alberta to the places I'm feeling nostalgic for this week.
It's Sunday Sundries... on a Monday. Like Freedom Friday on a Taco Tuesday but less tasty.
My Internet has been dropping the last few days causing my Sunday night post plans to be thwarted.
1. I went to Wonder Woman after work on Friday. I need to do a full proper review but with my Internet still playing hide-n-go-seek, all you get is "I loved it. It was everything I wanted and more. My only complaint was that I couldn't just sit in the theatre and watch the next showing being apparently pets need to be feed or something. I don't know. I just know they ruin everything. But the movie was fantastic. It has flaws - I've yet to see a movie that doesn't - but they are so minimal and inconsequential when compared to what it got so very right."
Look at her kick butt!
2. I spent the weekend with Noah and Rachel. There was a failure with Noah's kidney transplant and they have had to start the search for another donor roughly 10 years sooner than anticipated. This is my reminder that there is a need for kidney donors. For more information about being a living donor in Canada, visit The Kidney Foundation of Canada. In the States, visit The National Kidney Foundation.
If you are planning on attending, I highly recommend that you try and catch Andy's Totem Tour, the Le-La-La Dancers, and Alex Wells. Food, as always, is available from the Songhees Seafood and Steam Food Truck. My personal favourite is the Indian Taco (bison version).
It's a few years old, but a few good words from Wab Kinew.
Here's to a great week, everyone! Only four more days until the weekend.
I didn't post on Friday and Saturday as I really had nothing to say. Incredibly, day three and I still don't really have much to say. Well, unless you really want to hear about buying new sheets.
1. I had brunch at Spinnakers this morning. I've been a disappointed with their evening service the past few times I've been there, but the brunch was fantastic. Definitely going to make the trip out to Esquimalt for it again. Especially given how beautiful the view is... which I didn't take a picture of because the company was fun.
2. I started the weekend with dinner at the Flying Otter. Nothing says summer quite like that first beverage on the floating restaurant. After a lackluster spring, summer is here and it makes me happy.
First mojito of the summer.
After dinner, we walked to the end of the pier. Looking back at the Empress.
I can't believe May is over in a matter of days. I'm still thinking April was just last week.
1. Happy Mother's Day. Here's to mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, those who have cruelly been denied motherhood, mothers to babies who will never grow up, aunts and siblings who took on the role of mother, biological mothers to adopted babies, and all other forms that motherhood may take.
2. I found myself absent-mindedly singing along with the music in London Drugs today. If I have to have this stuck in my head, so do you.
I don't know which was worse: that I still knew all the lyrics after 30+ years or that I became aware of my singing because I was on-the-spot dancing along to it. Thankfully, the aisle I was in was empty.
3. This may be my new favourite video (language warning):
Story time! My cousin from Cork moved to New York in the early 90s for a job working on early voice recognition technology. After a couple of weeks, he was politely told that he had to stop testing the system because his accent kept throwing off the reading. I laugh every time I tell that story. (What does a Cork accent sound like? Well, I'm happy you asked!)
2. In less happy news, Venezuela is a mess. I know that it is tearing my Venezuelan friends apart not being there to support the protesters but on the other hand, it means that there are people outside of Venezuela to make sure the videos and pictures are shared with a larger audience. If you're unsure about why this is happening, this video is a good starting point.
3. I have been working my way through all of the Star Treks over the past few years. On Friday, I started season 7 of Voyager. I'm so close to finishing. It will be oddly bittersweet when I do. Now what am I going to do on Friday nights when I have a long week? On the upside, it will help me level up in my fake World of Nerdcraft.
4. BC saw it's highest turnout of advance voters in our current election. I was one of the advance voters and it took me all of 10 minutes to walk to the polling station, cast my ballot and walk home. I love advance voting because a) if something happens and I can't go when I planned then I can still go on Election Day, and b) the wait lines are almost non-existent.
