My love of GAA and Hurling is well documented. I'm over-the-moon excited that I get to spend this weekend assisting and watching the hurling at the Victoria Highland Games and Celtic Festival.
My dad got a good laugh out of it tonight."I'm phoning Ireland tomorrow to tell them."
But for now... it's late and I have to get up early tomorrow!

TG(Tomorrow)IF
I hit checkout time at work today and all I could think about was this gif.
It's just been one of those work weeks and I still have one day to go. Ugh.
On the upside, I now have my stepmom's grandma's fine china. I know, that relationship connection is a bit of a ride. It sounds like the start of an urban legend. To keep it simple, she's grandma from here on out because that's what I actually called her when she was alive. When grandma moved into her first assisted living home, she gave the china to my stepmom. I've been asking for it since I was... five? I don't ever remember not being vocal about wanting the china. I am forever grateful that my little brother was a brother because he had zero interest in it.
As of last night, the china is mine. Half of it is. The other half was still in my stepmom's storage. It will be mine soon!
I'd post a picture but I haven't unpacked mine yet and there are a lot of rose china patterns so... you'll see it some day.
Another upside is that a cousin is coming to visit in a few weeks. YAY!
Finally, I'm spending this weekend volunteering at the Victoria Highland Games and Celtic Festival. I'm volunteering with the hurling matches so I'll be surrounded by the Irish diaspora while I'm there. Still, I'll be sure to venture over to the Scottish exhibitions for the lovely... views ;)
It's sure to be a great weekend.
Maybe I can make it through that last day of work.

Northern Ireland Movies
Today was the anniversary of the Dublin and Monaghan bombs of 1974, and I debated writing about it. At the very least, it would be another reason to explain why I hate 'Irish Car Bombs'. (Old blog for those who are new around these parts.)
But the topic is just so depressing and there's enough of that in the world right now. Why not add some laughter? The two movies below are comedies set during the Troubles.
An Everlasting Piece
Two barbers meet while cutting hair for patients at a psychiatric hospital. They become friends and because of reasons, decide to start selling toupees.
It has a cameo by Billy Connolly and one of the greatest scenes ever written about herpes.
Good Vibrations
Based on the true story of DJ Terri Hooley who opened a record shop and started a record label in Northern Ireland to support the local punk scene.
I strongly encourage you to check out either of these movies if you can. They're a reminder that even in the darkest times, we can find laughter.
(There are, of course, a myriad of depressing movies about the Troubles. Of them all, I strongly recommend Hunger about Bobby Sands and the hunger strikers in the Maze Prison.)

Never Be Social During The Week
It's Tuesday at 11:06pm. I have been home for 39 minutes.
I made the mistake of going for dinner and a drink after work. In my defense, we drank very little. We just talked a lot!
I guess we all know who didn't get her laundry done tonight!
A couple of quick items before I hit the sack.
Evan Hadfield and his dad, Chris, are working on a new YouTube series called Rare Earth. Chris Hadfield is probably best known to you as "that astronaut guy" or "that singing astronaut" or even "the astronaut with the moustache", but you might not be as familiar with Evan. Which is a pity because Evan was the driving force (on earth) behind getting "Space Oddity" recorded, filmed, edited, produced, etc, etc. Also, from my few interactions with him on Twitter, he's an all-round nice guy. In other words, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Anyway, bringing this back to the point, keep an eye on Chris's YouTube channel.
I never talked about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. It was wonderful. Go see it. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll probably need therapy.
Okay. Time to hit the hay before I fall asleep at the table.

Tea Time
I got some exciting mail today.
Nerdy tea! Picardian Earl Grey. (For the non-Trekkies who are reading this.)
It is slightly more bitter than my usual blend of Earl Grey but I still like it and it has the added nerd reference. Once it's gone, I will need to repurpose the the label. I just hope that I can figure out how. Let's keep our fingers crossed that I'm able to... make it so! *snort*
